Here's a few articles I've written.  Honest.  Really...

I'm a songwriter, musician, performer, daddy, promoter, heavy eater, husband, really bad web-dude, reluctant cigarette smoker and involuntary fixer-upper-at-the-house-guy.  I've never thought of myself as an author.   I can't even type well; the medieval monks were  faster turning out those illuminated Bibles,  Johann Gutenburg could probably set type faster than I can hunt and peck, heck,  the Rosetta stone was almost certainly chiseled out at a better word-per-minute rate than I could ever hope to achieve on my keyboard.  Still, what I lack in speed, I make up for in deadly inaccuracy. If it were not for spell check, this page might has well have been written in Sanskrit.  I'm the only person on this planet who regards the television close-captioned typist as a paragon of spelling perfection.  Despite these handicaps, I did  end up writing a few articles for others along the way.  I guess that makes me an author, although Steven King and John Grisham are not likely to feel threatened.

I started writing (if you don't count press releases, radio and television spots for the rodeos I've helped promote) by doggedly churning out text for this website .  I received some major  'encouragement' when after my close friend Bill read my 'Boring Bio' section,  I asked him for honest criticism.   I was flattered with Bill's reply, "I think you should turn this into a book."  Of course he did follow that comment with, "at least books burn."

When I decided to write for others, I was determined to produce a body of work about a subject I know well.  My lovely wife did make the helpful suggestion that I should immediately rule out sex educational materials and how-to automotive repair manuals.   Music, and the music business on the local level, I do know.  I've spent  the last 35 years as a performing musician, made a fairly good living in a profession most people will tell you is a hobby, and I've collected a good bit of knowledge about the music business.  Hopefully, some of this knowledge has made it's way into these short pieces.

Having started with this disclaimer, I do state that the articles in this section were written by me, have appeared a few places on the Internet, but I figured,  'why not gather them all in one place?'  Who knows, maybe Bill will print  them out, crumple them up, waste a little butane and flint, create some flame, heat and smoke, and by doing so, make the world a slightly better place...

The following is NOT an ad, these guys don't even know I'm writing this, they have not promised me a dime.

Hokay, here's a good place to put in a plug for 2 good friends who don't know I exist, but first, let me tell you WHY I wrote those articles.  I started feeling a little hurt after I put a lot of hard work in this website... no, you won't believe that.  Hokay, I started feeling a little hurt after I did play around a few hours with it and found out that just sticking a site up on the web does not mean the world will read it. It has to be listed in the search engines, or have links people can follow so they can find it, preferably both.

After doing some reading, I found out most knowledgeable people agree that two good ways to achieve this were article placements, and directory submissions. I could to provide articles to other sites, free of charge, and in gratitude they would direct people to your website. The job of submitting the articles to each site I thought  would be interested in my articles, heck, even finding sites that took outside content, was a Herculean task.  Then I ran across Article Sender

I also started looking up directories, but  I found many of them asked for money, some of them had some really questionable linking practices, and most asked for a link back (which doesn't sound too bad, but if they get 'blacklisted' for unethical practices by a search engine, your site could be too if you have linked to them.)  Then I found the SEO Friendly Free Directory List at Vilesilencer

If you have a website, check out  these 2 resources.  I've only started using them for a couple of months, and I am really seeing my site take off.

It was a week or so before I started seeing the results.  Now, my site is about 6 months old, and I have thousands of visitors from all over the world each month.  According to tools which use Google's own statistics, on the next Page Rank update, I'm supposed to have a Page Rank of 5 (that's REALLY good , especially for a 6 month old site.)  Not only that, if you search for the words "newstalgia" and " music"  my site is the number one return in Google, Yahoo, and MSN search, and has high ranking for a lot of other more general search terms as well.
